John Dillinger robbed Citizens National Bank of Bluffton of $2,100 at noon on Aug. 14, 1933. The five-minute episode became the story of the century for Bluffton residents.
The gang fired over 40 shots in a wide arch across the entire business district, breaking many windows, but causing no personal injuries.
Fred Steiner, Bluffton historian, will share eye-witness accounts of the robbery plus many stories that evolved into oral history form, but have stretched the truth.
Steiner, now retired, was editor of the Bluffton News for two decades. He then created two internet community journalism websites, Bluffton Icon and Ada Icon.
